CSORC AGM. The 2009 AGM will be held at Littleton Sailing Club on Thursday 12th February. Everybody is welcome but it would be appreciated if you would contact the crew bureau if you are planning to come, so we have an idea of numbers.

Fastnet 2009 The anticipated cost of the campaign is £1500 a head for three qualifying events plus the race itself. The 3 qualifying races are likely to be the le Havre on 2nd/3rd May, the Eddystone on 23rd/24th May and the Channel Race on 13th/14th June, with the Cherbourg on 26th/28th June as a reserve.See the programme for more details. If you are interested in competing in this event then please contact the crew bureau.

2009 race programme Please see the programme for details. We have quite a full programme this year but as ever it all depends on what you want.

Cherbourg RORC Sept 2008. A solid 30 knots of wind on the way over, and then even more on the return. But we didn't break anything and despite a bumpy ride the sea coming over the boat was surprisingly warm on the hands. Flying Banana, a trusty Sigma 38 chartered from MEC sail, proved that these boats are hard to beat when the wind gets up. In IRC Class 3 we finished 4th out of 10 listed entries and overall we finished 12th out of 35 entries (14 failed to start). In the “Seahorse Division” we finished 1st out of 5 entries.

Interdepartmental Offshore Regatta (IDOR) (31st May to 5th June). Once again CSORC will be entering a boat in the Civil Service Interdepartmental Offshore Regatta (the IDOR), one of several CSSA clubs to do so. The majority of the entries for this event are made up of crews from a single department (HMCE, GCHQ etc.) and most crews have a proportion of novices. As a club open to all CSSC members we are able to provide an opportunity for those whose departments cannot muster an entry, and of course to retired and outsourced civil servants.

This event is great fun with a wide range of abilities and experience, a good social side, and some keen competition.

About the club
The club offers sailing and racing opportunities for all, from complete beginners trying a day sail in the Solent, to experienced sailors looking for competitive yacht racing. Throughout the season we enter a variety of racing events:
  • Inshore races in the Solent such as the Warsash Spring Series, the Hamble River Winter Series and Sunsail Regattas;
  • Offshore RORC and JOG races to France and the Channel Islands;
  • Campaigns such as Cowes Week and the Fastnet.
The emphasis is on having fun, with a friendly atmosphere. There is no minimum level of experience to sail with the club. For details of membership and eligibility click on the Membership menu item at the top of the page or download a crew bureau form here
